The Indigo Disk DLC for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet expands the Applin evolutionary line by introducing the formidable Grass and Dragon-type evolution known as Hydrapple. Players who previously evolved their Applin into Dipplin during the Teal Mask expansion can now take this creature one step further. Unlocking this impressive multi-headed creature requires completing specific storyline milestones in the Blueberry Academy's Terarium.
Obtaining Dipplin Before the Final Evolution
Before you can add Hydrapple to your team, you must first secure a Dipplin. Dipplin is obtained by exposing a standard Applin to a Syrupy Apple, an item available at the shop in Kitakami's Mossfell Confluence. Once you have successfully evolved Applin into Dipplin, ensure it is in your active party before proceeding into the Blueberry Academy.
Unlocking Technical Machine Dragon Cheer
The key to evolving Dipplin into Hydrapple revolves around teaching it a specialized move called Dragon Cheer. This move is contained within TM 226, which is locked behind progression in the Indigo Disk storyline. To earn this Technical Machine, trainers must challenge and defeat Drayton, the Dragon-type member of the Blueberry League Elite Four.
Conquering Drayton's Elite Trial in the Polar Biome
Drayton can be found waiting in the snowy Polar Biome of the Terarium. Before you can challenge him directly in battle, you must clear his Elite Trial by defeating three local trainers. The trial mandates that you battle exclusively using Pokemon caught directly within the Terarium itself.
Teaching Dragon Cheer and Triggering Evolution
After defeating Drayton in the trial and the subsequent battle, he will reward you with the Dragon Cheer TM. Open your inventory menu, select the TM, and teach Dragon Cheer directly to your Dipplin. Once Dipplin learns this move, simply level it up one time through battle experience or by using EXP Candy to trigger its transformation into Hydrapple.
